INTRODUCTION
This Ship Compendium is an attempt to catalogue the major capital
ships employed by the Rebel Alliance/New Republic/Galactic Alliance
and the Galactic Empire/Imperial Remnant and provide the pertinent
statistics for those vessels. There have been a variety of sourcebooks
and references published on these vessels but far too often they
provide inconsistent or erroneous figures. The overriding aim of this
Compendium therefore is to collate all the known data on these vessels
and to establish acceptable figures for them. It draws on a number of
web-based and paper sources, as well as the erudite members of the
insane cult known as the "Fleet Junkies."
Many moons ago, one of these Junkies decided to create what he
affectionately dubbed "Project Calamari". After being met to
tremendous acclaim, the lovechild of Warlord_Ken and AdmiralNick22 lay dormant, waiting to be resurrected. When
Kris7 joined the ever-growing fringe, he decided that it was time to
breathe life back into this monster. To do so, he consulted a number
of other inmates who, after hours of work in their padded cells,
bombarded him with a plethora of statistics, analyses and an endless
stream of rants. You see, although the Fleet Junkies may be an
eclectic bunch, they are united in their passion for the capital ships
of the Star Wars Universe. As such, they find themselves constantly
angered by the seeming lack of thought put into the official
publications detailing these vessels.
Unfortunately, although many of the hypothetical statistics put
forward in this Compendium are derived from apposite logic and
adherence to acceptable mathematical and scientific conventions, these
statistics remain unofficial. To that end, the Compendium has been
broken into two distinct sections. The first section contains the
statistics put forward in the various sourcebooks and other official
publications, while the second section is comprised of conjectural and
speculative data compiled by our resident devotees. Welcome to the
asylum.
Notes to reader
1. Vessels are listed by length, from shortest to longest.
2. Sources are listed in abbreviated form after each ship name and
listed in full at the end of the Compendium under the heading
"References"
3. Any stats provided by a Jedi Council Member are purely speculative
4. While images have been provided for most vessels, some have "No
Image Available" appearing instead. This simply means that no pictures
were found and that Kris7 cannot draw.
5. Many of the images are squashed and contorted. Simply click on them
and you will be taken to a larger, properly scaled version.
6. All ships have been given a "combat role" in this version. This
classification system is almost entirely the work of forum member Grin_Reaper and is explained below these notes. With his
permission, I have re-worded some parts and have added in a few extra
classes. These classifications are purely speculative.
7. With regards to weaponry, a battery is equal to five cannons, i.e.
one turbolaser battery equals five turbolaser cannons.
8. Not included in this edition are the "Ultra Heavy Turbolaser
Turrets" which have in the past been the topic of discussion in the
thread. Although movie evidence, the highest level of canon, shows
their existence, the preponderance of RPG statistics, upon which most
of the EU is based, does not acknowledge them. Until they can be
incorporated into the existing statistics they will not be included in
the Compendium. I suggest that this be a project for the Fleet Junkies
to pursue in the near future.
9. Version 5 adds the vessels known to be in use by the Corporate
Sector Authority (CSA) as well as the Harrow-class Star
Destroyer and the Protector-class Heavy Cruiser. Included in
the next edition will be the Mandator- and Procurator-classes.
10. Please provide as much feedback as time will allow you as this is
intended to be a true group effort.
CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
Patrol Ship Lightly armed intra-system patrol ships designed
for anti-smuggling operations. Most are incapable of hyperspace
travel. Picket Ship A Corvette sub-class, Picket Ships are fast,
lightly armed vessels equipped with lavish sensor suites. These ships
are typically deployed in reconnaissance and patrol duties. Patrol Destroyer Similar to Picket Ships, Patrol Destroyers
are fast, lightly armed warships with powerful long-range sensors.
They serve as primarily as reconnaissance and long-range patrol ships. Star Monitor Star Monitors are essentially small vessels with
big guns. They mount weaponry similar to that of far larger vessels,
giving them impressive offensive abilities, but this comes at the cost
of manoeuvrability and hull strength. Also, the enormous power that
these weapons require, and hence the oversized reactor, means that
there is little room for comforts and amenities. Light Assault Cruiser Light Assault Cruisers are small
vessels that lack the cargo capacity of Corvettes and the firepower of
Gunships. Pirates attacking lightly guarded convoys often use them as
raiders. Corvette Corvettes are small, multi-role vessels that
incorporate speed, firepower and versatility. They are prominent
throughout the galaxy as they tend to be easily available and readily
modifiable. Corvette-Carrier These vessels are simply Corvettes that have
been designed or modified to carry a small number of fighters,
generally between a flight (four fighters) and a squadron (twelve
fighters). Gunship Approximate in size to Corvettes, Gunships are
intended for use in heavy combat and as such mount extensive arrays of
anti-starfighter and capital-scale weaponry. Most gunships are capable
of engaging and threatening far larger enemies, although this comes at
a cost, as gunships sacrifice cargo space and comfortable living
quarters in favour of engines, armour, weaponry, and shields. Anti-Starfighter Gunship These Gunships are devoted solely to
combating enemy starfighters, and as such mount many anti-starfighter
weapon emplacements and little if any capital-scale weaponry. Anti-Starfighter Frigate These frigates are intended
primarily for use against enemy starfighters and as such are typically
equipped with extensive anti-starfighter weaponry and advanced
targeting systems. These ships typically have little to no
capital-scale weaponry and as such are vulnerable to larger vessels in
combat. Escort Frigate Escort Frigates are small, well armed vessels
that are equally effective against starfighters and capital ships. In
addition to their armament, they tend to carry at least one squadron
of their own starfighters. Most Escort Frigate classes possess
powerful long-range sensors and extensive communications suites as
they are often used as command ships for convoy escorts. Torpedo Frigate Torpedo Frigates discard the powerful
communications and sensor arrays of the Escort Frigate in favour of an
array of warhead launchers in addition to their laser and turbolaser
cannons, giving them more of a punch against larger capital ships.
They tend to carry little or no starfighters, and are instead intended
solely for ship-to-ship combat. Line Frigate Like Torpedo Frigates, Line Frigates forego the
sophisticated communication and sensor systems of Escort Frigates in
favour of heavier armour, tougher shields, and more fighters.
Additionally, Line Frigates mount more capital-scale weaponry,
typically sacrificing some of their anti-starfighter weaponry for ion
cannons. These are pure combat vessels. Attack Frigate Intended for a wide range of combat
engagements, Attack Frigates mount a balance of capital-scale and
anti-fighter weaponry. Although similar in armament to Line Frigates,
Attack Frigates forgo the toughness of their cousin, instead placing
an emphasis on speed and manoeuvrability. Assault Frigate The largest of all the frigate types, Assault
Frigates are far more powerful than their smaller cousins. They
feature thicker hull armour, stronger shields and more extensive
weaponry. They are well armed with a balance between anti-starfighter
and capital-scale weaponry, making them effective in a number of
roles. Assault Frigates are capable of engaging larger vessels and
holding their own. Bulk Cruiser These vessels are essentially cargo ships that
have been armed for use in combat. They tend not to be particularly
effective in battle, but are sufficiently armed to defend themselves
from attack. Light Cruiser Armed more heavily than a frigate, but lacking
the same degree of anti-fighter weaponry, Light Cruisers are used as
convoy escorts, raiders, and deep space long patrol ships, in addition
to helping screen heavier combatants in fleet-scale engagements. Most
light cruisers carry one to two fighter squadrons, though a few
classes carry as many as three or four. Medium Cruiser Medium Cruisers are armed with more (and
heavier) capital-scale weaponry than light cruisers. While they
perform much the same roles, Medium Cruisers are more capable of
fighting heavier warships. They are also less used as convoy escorts,
and more as patrol ships. Heavy Cruiser Pure combat vessels, Heavy Cruisers mount large
amounts of capital and anti-fighter weaponry, in addition to carrying
between two and four fighter squadrons. They fulfil a wide range of
roles, from acting as convoy escorts to providing fire support for
larger capital ships in battle. They also serve as command ships for
taskforces of smaller warships. Assault Cruiser Assault Cruisers are generally larger and
more heavily armoured than Heavy Cruisers and, in addition to their
sizeable armament, tend to mount extensive armaments, greatly
augmented by a large number of warhead launchers. Star Cruiser Star Cruisers are large, powerful warships that
specialise in ship-to-ship combat. They are highly effective space
combatants due to their combination of extensive weaponry and large
starfighter complement, although this comes at a cost as they are
somewhat lacking in troops, limiting their ground assault and boarding
capabilities. Star Destroyer Star Destroyers are extremely versatile
warships that are amongst the most powerful space combatants, as well
as possessing large numbers of starfighters and ground troops. Star
Destroyers combine all the best features of the smaller support craft
but in a much more dominant, making them the centrepieces of a
battlegroup. Star Defender Larger than the largest normal Star Destroyer
or Star Cruiser, Star Defenders are similar to Super Star Destroyers
in size and armament, differing mainly in their primary role. While
both can serve as a fleet command ship, like the Star Cruiser, Star
Defenders are intended primarily for heavy combat space combat. To
that end, they are typically equipped with an abundance of
capital-scale weaponry, as well as strong shields and thick armour
plating. Super Star Destroyer Similar in size and armament to Star
Defenders, Super Star Destroyers serve an additional purpose:
planetary assault. Super Star Destroyers are equipped with a wide
range of weapons capable of planetary bombardment, as well as carrying
enormous numbers of ground assault machinery and troops. In addition
to this, they are extremely well equipped for space combat and are
capable of laying waste to entire taskforces. Star Battlecruiser Like the Star Cruiser, the Star
Battlecruiser is a pure space combatant and is capable of devastating
entire fleets of lesser enemy craft. These immense vessels are
exceedingly expensive however and as such are quite rare. Star Battleship Larger and much more heavily armed than a
Star Battlecruiser, the Star Battleship is functionally a pocket Star
Dreadnought. These behemoths are equipped with a gargantuan number of
weapons emplacements, as well as carrying inordinate numbers of
starfighters, troops and ground assault machinery. Extraordinarily
rare, these vessels function solely as command ships for the largest
and most important fleets. Star Dreadnought Far larger than any other vessels, Star
Dreadnoughts are the amongst the most awesome sights in the galaxy.
These leviathans are capable of decimating enemy fleets and projecting
political power to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. They carry a
massive starfighter complement, as well as enormous numbers of troops
and ground assault machinery. Despite the amazing advantages they
grant, the cost involved in constructing, maintaining and operating
these grand vessels means that very few are ever built. Escort Carrier Usually between frigates and heavy cruisers in
size, Escort Carriers generally carry between three and six
starfighter squadrons. With most of their space devoted to hanger
bays, Escort Carriers tend to lack capital-scale weaponry and as such
are extremely vulnerable to larger enemy vessels. They usually mount
significant anti-starfighter defences though, which allows them to
protect their launching fighters. Assault Carrier Assault Carriers are approximate in size to
heavy cruisers and typically carry around one wing of starfighters. In
addition, they mount considerable capital-scale weaponry, as well as
having more powerful shields and thicker hull armour. Unlike Escort
Carriers, Assault Carriers are designed to be able to hold their own
somewhat in combat. Fleet Carrier The largest of all carriers, a Fleet Carrier
generally carry around two starfighter wings. Fleet Carriers are
approximate in size to Star Cruisers and are equipped with strong
shields, thick armour plating and significant firepower. These vessels
also function as command ships and as such are equipped with advanced
communications systems. Troop Transport These vessels are, as the name suggests, used
primarily for transporting large numbers of troops into combat. They
tend to be well armoured and protected, but are generally not intended
for use in fleet engagements. Tender Essentially a space-going warehouse, tenders are
generally unarmed vessels that carry large amounts of supplies for the
battlegroup to which they are attached. They tend not to be especially
durable either, so are generally kept away from combat. Interdictor Frigate Interdictor Frigates are small vessels
which mount gravity well projectors, with the primary role of
functioning as interdictors. They tend to be lightly armed, mainly
with anti-starfighter weaponry, and as such need to be protected when
in combat. Interdictor Cruiser Interdictor Cruisers are medium-sized
vessels which mount gravity well projectors, with the primary role of
functioning as interdictors. They tend to be moderately armed, moreso
than Interdictor Frigates, but are still under-gunned for their size.
They often carry at least one squadron of starfighters as well, so are
more viable for combat operations than their smaller counterparts. Interdictor Star Destroyer These vessels are often refitted
Star Destroyers and are much more viable in combat than smaller
interdictors. They sacrifice some of the heavier weaponry of Star
Destroyers, but their gravity well projectors give them a unique
combat advantage.

Double/Dual Cannon two gun emplacement
Triple Cannon three gun emplacement
Quad Cannon four gun emplacement
Battery five gun emplacement
Double Battery ten gun emplacement
Quad Battery twenty gun emplacement
The Mansk-class Light Escort Frigate was prominent during the
Galactic Civil War with Rebellion, as it is easily customisable and
cheap to obtain. For such small vessels, they mount an impressive
array of weaponry and feature excellent shields and hull plating. They
are ideally suited to patrol duty as, in addition to their offensive
abilities, they are very fast at both sublight and in hyperspace. They
also feature excellent sensor packages, making them highly suitable
for exploration and reconnaissance.
The CEC Republic Cruiser is the direct predecessor to the CR90
Corvette and functions primarily as a diplomatic transport. To that
end, it is equipped with extensive facilities for hosting and
entertaining dignitaries. As they are unarmed and lack strong hull
armour, these vessels need to be kept out of combat. One One famous
Republic Cruiser was the Radiant VII which was a veteran of 34 years
of service in the diplomatic corps of Coruscant itself.
The fast and deadly DP20 Gunship is one of the few CEC military
designs. Engines fill more than half the interior of the small vessel,
while weapons emplacements take up most of the rest. The turbolasers
and concussion missiles make it a threat to larger capital ships,
while the quad laser cannons make it an effective anti-starfighter
platform. Given the ship's mission profile, the majority of the crew
is comprised of gunners. These vessels are often deployed in packs for
screening and escort duty and saw extensive action during the Galactic
Civil War, primarily with the Rebellion.
The CR90 Corvette is one of the most versatile and enduring designs in
the galaxy. They serve in innumerate capacities, ranging from
freighters to troop transports and passenger liners to warships. They
saw extensive action for the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil
War, as they were highly effective and easily affordable. As the
Alliance built and acquired larger and more powerful vessels, the
Corvette was reduced to more of a support role. They still see
service, generally as pickets or escorts. A prominent example is the Tantive IV used by Princess Leia to escape from Toprawa with
the plans for the original Death Star.
The Adz-class was conceived as a fast patrol ship for use in
the outlying regions of the galaxy, and was introduced shortly after
the death of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Capable of making 0.55 past
lightspeed and mounting a decent armament, the Adz-class is a
highly effective vessel that sees active service primarily in the
Imperial Remnant.
The CEC CR90a Corvette, colloquially known as an Assassin-class
Corvette, was introduced during the Galactic Civil War as a more
dedicated combat vessel than the base model CR90. The extensive cargo
space in the predecessor has been all but removed and is replaced by a
small hanger capable of holding six starfighters. In addition, two
tractor beam projectors have been added as well as thicker hull
plating. While still relatively cheap to obtain, the Assassin Corvette
is more suited for combat operations than its predecessor.
The CEC Y-Head Corvette is an old design that, in the spirit of most
Corellian designs, incorporates reliability, speed and comfort. It
performs a somewhat similar role to a CR90 Corvette, though is
slightly larger and more powerful. It mounts a more sizeable armament
than its smaller cousin, as well as having stronger shields and
thicker hull plating. In addition, a single side hanger carries six
starfighters. These vessels were quite prominent in the Rebel Alliance
fleet during the Galactic Civil War, with several of them fighting at
the Battle of Endor.
The Agave-class Picket was introduced as part of the New Class
program and functions primarily as a reconnaissance vessel. They are
often sent ahead of the main battlegroup to scout and report back to
group commander and are capable of fast hyperspace jumps with minimal
warm-up time. Although they are sufficiently armed to handle a
standard patrol, if detected they generally flee to safety as quickly
as possible. A prominent example is the Folna which fought
during the Yevethan war.
Another of the New Class designs, the Warrior-class Gunship is
a powerfully armed vessel. Its turbolasers and concussion missile
launchers make it a serious threat to capital ships, while it is also
adequately armed to fend off starfighter attacks. They are used
primarily to punch through and break up enemy formations. Prominent
examples are the Warrior and the Vanguard which fought
in the Yevethan war.
The Marauder Corvette was introduced during the days of the Old
Republic and served in a wide variety of roles, from convoy escort to
patrol ship. After the Republic decided there was no longer a place in
its navy for the Marauder, the Corporate Sector Authority made an
offer to purchase a large number of these vessels. Although ageing,
these vessels are still prevalent throughout the Corporate Sector and
are often used to supplement the firepower of Victory Star Destroyers
and Invincible Dreadnaughts. The Marauder's unique design, which
causes it to look more like an oversized starfighter than a capital
ship, allows it to be highly effective in atmosphere as well. A number
of these vessels were used by the Rebellion during the Civil War as
they were cheap and easy to obtain.
Introduced at the beginning of the New Order, the Bayonet Light
Cruiser was considered somewhat outdated for front line combat by the
Battle of Yavin. Nonetheless, it mounts an impressive armament for its
size, with the heavy turbolasers allowing it to engage much larger
vessels and the laser cannons making it effective against enemy
starfighters. After its relegation from the front lines, the Imperial
Navy deployed it extensively throughout the Outer Rim.

The Pursuit-class Light Cruiser was introduced in the early
days of the Empire and functions primarily as a monitor. This small
vessel was intended to be able to successfully engage larger vessels
and as such is quite heavily armed for its size. Its two heavy
turbolasers are the same as those mounted on the enormous Imperial
Star Destroyers and make the Pursuit Light Cruiser an extremely
dangerous vessel. A major drawback to the design is that most of the
weapons are limited to forward firing arcs. This leaves it vulnerable
to faster, more manoeuvrable ships that are able to get in behind it.
In addition to the heavy weaponry, it is also very effective against
attacking starfighters. It also has the capacity to carry a squadron
of its own starfighters, rounding out the capabilities of this
powerful little ship.
The Merkuni Drives Trenchant-class Cruiser dates back to the
days of the Old Republic and is not especially plentiful. It is
extremely underarmed for its size, with far smaller vessels easily
outgunning it. Not especially fast or durable, these small ships are
quite vulnerable against enemy capital ships. However, due to their
eight quad laser cannons, they are very well equipped to fend off
starfighter attacks. They are still used by the Empire in limited
roles, but have otherwise disappeared from the galaxy.
One of the newest vessels in the Republic fleet, the Ranger-class is one of the most effective anti-starfighter
platforms in the galaxy, while also adequately armed to take on larger
capital vessels. During the war with Yuuzhan Vong the Ranger-class saw extensive action and proved extremely adept at
breaking up formations of coralskippers. A prominent example is the Ranger which fought against the Yuuzhan Vong during the
attempted retaking of Bilbringi.
The DP50 Heavy Gunship was introduced by CEC as a capital ship escort
and as such is equipped with a far more extensive armament than its
smaller cousin. The addition of ion cannons and an increased warhead
complement make them a serious threat to larger capital ships, while
the dozen quad laser cannons ensure they remain an effective
anti-starfighter platform. Never extremely common, these vessels are
nonetheless highly effective in their intended role. Prominent
examples include the four gunships assigned to protect Admiral
Ackbar's Galactic Voyager.
The Lancer-class Frigate was designed by Kuat Drive Yards as a
dedicated anti-starfighter platform following the Battle of Yavin.
Their twenty quad laser cannons utilise the most sophisticated
targeting software in the galaxy, making them extremely effective
against attacking starfighters. However, their lack of capital scale
weaponry, weak shields and weak hull make them vulnerable to larger
vessels and they rely on other capital ships for protection. As such,
they are often deployed in flanking formation with Imperial Star
Destroyers, with the Star Destroyers protecting the Lancers from other
capital ships and the Lancers protecting the Star Destroyers from
starfighters. They were retired from service after decades of action,
but were recommissioned during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion when the New
Republic experienced a shortage of capital ships. A prominent example
is the Pride of Selonia which was commanded by Captain Todra
Mayn during the Yuuzhan Vong war.
The CC-9600 Frigate was introduced after the successes of the CC-7700
Frigate and was intended for use as a front line warship and to that
end is heavily armed and armoured. Smaller than the CC-7700, it
features an impressive array of turbolasers and ion cannons, making it
a highly effective line combat vessel. The CC-9600 doesn't carry any
starfighters or shuttles, and instead devotes this space to extra hull
plating, shield generators and weapons. These vessels were commonly
used by the Rebellion during the Galactic Civil War, but have since
disappeared almost entirely from service.
Kuat Drive Yards introduced the Nebulon-B2 Frigate in response to the
growing number of Nebulon-B Frigates being captured by the Rebel
Alliance. Despite being almost fifty metres shorter than its
predecessor, the Nebulon-B2 Frigate features a far more impressive
weapons loadout, as well as stronger shielding and thicker hull
plating.
Designated as a Line Frigate, the Corona-class was introduced just
prior to the New Class program and is intended for close combat.
Designed as an eventual replacement to the highly successful Nebulon-B
Escort Frigate, the Corona Frigate provides close line fire support
and anti-starfighter cover for cruisers and Star Destroyers. Prominent
examples include the Boldheart which was crippled by the
Teljkon Vagabond, as well as the Endor and the Shooting
Star, the two of which catastrophically collided destroying both
vessels.
In the early days of the Rebellion, these Frigates served as the
primary combat cruisers and command ships of the diminutive Rebel
fleet. They were originally built by Kuat Drive Yards on Imperial
contracts to work against Rebel starfighters, but many of these ships
were captured or defected to the Alliance. Later, as the Rebels
acquired larger ships, Nebulon-B's were reassigned to serve in
medical, reconnaissance, command, and search-and-rescue roles.=20
Nebulon-B's still serve the GFFA in escort and anti-starfighter roles.
A prominent example is the Yavaris which was used General
Antilles' flagship during the taking of Maw Installation.
During the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance captured a number of
Nebulon-B Escort Frigates and converted them into mobile medical
bases. They sacrifice troops and starfighters for extensive medical
facilities, but are still moderately armed. In addition, they feature
stronger shields, enhancing their survival profile in combat.
Prominent examples include the Mercy, Redemption and Salvation.
The KDY Star Galleon was designed as a cargo ship that could defend
itself from pirates and rebels. In addition to the substantial
weaponry, up to 300 troops can be stationed aboard a Star Galleon
ensuring that if the vessel were to be boarded, the precious cargo can
be protected. If for some reason the cargo is threatened, the hold can
be jettisoned, upon which it automatically jumps into hyperspace.
Kuat Drive Yards Class 1000 Cruiser (GEDB and K7)
Length: 300 metres
Designation: Light Cruiser
Crew: 660
Troop Capacity: 200
Cargo Capacity: 500 metric tons
Consumables: 2 years
Shield Rating: SBD
Hull Rating: RU
Starfighter Complement: 12 starfighters =3D 1 squadron
Weapons:
28 Turbolaser Cannons
12 Ion Cannons
Although quite small, the KDY Class 1000 Cruiser is a highly effective
vessel that is used primarily for patrol duty. It features an
extensive array of turbolaser and ion cannons, making it a threat to
far larger vessels and is very quick at sublight.
The Quasar Fire-class Carrier is a highly modified version of
the SoroSuub Corporation Quasar Fire-class Bulk Cruiser. They
carry four squadrons of starfighters but are lightly armed, requiring
escort and protection from their starfighters and other capital ships.
As they are individually modified vessels, no set of stock
specifications exists, however the above armament is the heaviest
known. Prominent examples include the Thurse from the Yuuzhan
Vong war and the Flurry which was commanded by Luke Skywalker
during the Battle of Bakura.
The Mon Calamari MCE10 Escort Frigate is quick vessel typically used
to screen convoys or larger capital ships. Never especially plentiful,
these ships have a considerable armament for their size and also carry
a squadron of starfighters. A few of these frigates still serve in the
GADF. A prominent example is the frigate which fought in the Corellia
system when Thracken Sal-Solo seized control of Centrepoint Station.
The Carrack-class Light Cruiser is an old but proven design
that, after appearing around a century before the start of the Clone
Wars, still serves in both the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant.
It is extremely well armed for a vessel its size but this comes at a
cost, as there is no hanger space. Four starfighters can be carried on
external racks but there is no room for additional support craft. The
twenty laser cannons make it highly effective against starfighters,
however these may be replaced with twenty ion cannons, making it
highly effective against larger capital ships. A prominent example of
this versatile design is the Dominant from the Battle of
Bakura.
This vessel was the first of the New Class designs completed. Sacheens
are typically used to screen New Republic fleets, but are also used as
convoy escorts. They have a sizeable armament for a ship their size
and are capable of carrying a squadron of starfighters. A prominent
example is the Trenchant which was destroyed during the
Yevethan war.
The New Class vessels were constructed with minimal space for
consumables, devoting that space instead to weaponry, hull plating,
shield generators and starfighters. The Hajen-class Fleet
Tender was designed to function as a "flying warehouse", carrying all
the supplies needed to keep a fleet operational. Not exceptionally
durable and unarmed, the Fleet Tenders require escorts for protection
when entering hostile territory. A prominent example is the Ahazi which was destroyed during the Yevethan war.
The Hapan Nova-class Cruiser is functionally a large and
powerful frigate. Its impressive array of turbolasers and ion cannons
allow it to engage larger capital ships, while its ten laser cannons
make it effective against starfighters. These elongated vessels are
generally deployed as escorts and support vessels for Hapan Battle
Dragons and feature a retractable shield that protects the bridge
during combat.
Loronar Defence Industries designed the Belarus Medium Cruiser as an
eventual replacement for their highly successful Strike Cruiser and it
was one of the first vessels constructed under New Republic contracts.
It requires less crew and features an improvement in lateral firepower
of 40% over its predecessor. They are typically deployed in line
formation with other ships and are generally assigned to protect the
flanks of larger vessels, such as Star Destroyers. A prominent example
is the Glorious which led the search for the Teljkon Vagabond.
Loronar Defence Industries introduced the Strike-class Cruiser
as a highly customisable, easily mass-produced vessel. The Strike
Cruiser featured a highly modular design, allowing it to be adapted to
suit any mission profile. As such, these vessels serve effectively in
a number of capacities, from troop transports to starfighter carriers.
Introduced before the Battle of Yavin, these vessels still see service
throughout the galaxy.
The SoroSuub Liberator-class Carrier Cruiser is an extremely
versatile, state-of-the-art vessel that can carry three regiments of
troops and six starfighter squadrons. In addition, it boasts a
formidable weapons complement and incorporates advanced hull armour
and shielding technology. It is the smallest vessel known to be
designated as an assault carrier, as, unlike most carriers approximate
to it, it is armed with extensive capital-scale weaponry. A number of
these expensive vessels were used by the Rebellion during the Galactic
Civil War after the defection of the Sullustans.
The CC-7700 Interdictor Frigate was designed solely as a platform for
two gravity well projectors. When activated, these projectors create
artificial gravity wells, preventing hyperspace travel in the area. In
addition, they carry a sizable armament and feature relatively strong
shields and thick hull plating. Despite being quite effective in their
intended role, they never became too prevalent when introduced and are
now extremely rare.
The Prowler-class Escort Carrier carries an entire wing of
starfighters, greatly augmenting the fighter capacity of a fleet.
Their lack of capital scale weaponry requires that they be escorted
and kept out of combat situations. In addition to the extensive
docking bays, Escort Carriers also possess substantial repair
facilities ensuring that their squadrons are maintained at peak
condition.
The MC40a is, like all Mon Calamari vessels before the MC90, a
converted civilian liner. These 500 metre vessels predated the larger
and more powerful MC80 and MC80a series but are still widely used.
Like all Mon Calamari vessels, it features strong shields and powerful
engines.
The MC40b is essentially an upgrade of the MC40a, but is almost
identical to its predecessor. It too is a converted civilian liner,
but it mounts 2 additional turbolaser batteries and 6 additional ion
cannons, as well as carrying an extra squadron of starfighters. A
prominent example was the Poesy which was destroyed during the
Yuuzhan Vong war.
The primary warship of the Hapans is the small but extremely powerful
Battle Dragon. Composed of two saucers connected by a central core,
the Battle Dragon mounts almost one hundred weapons, allowing it to
successfully engage far larger vessels in combat. The saucer
configuration allows for the turbolasers to be rotated around the
hull. In addition to the sizable number of conventional weapons, the
Battle Dragon can also generate pulse mass mines, which function in a
similar way to gravity well projectors. During the war with the
Yuuzhan Vong the Hapans deployed many of these vessels to assist the
Galactic Alliance. There are 63 red-hued Battle Dragons in service at
any one time, one for each of the life-giving worlds in the Hapes
Consortium.
The KDY Demolisher Frigate is somewhat similar in appearance to the
newer Imperial Star Destroyers, but is far smaller. The Demolisher is
equipped with a single hanger located at the prow of the ship,
effectively splitting the bow into two dagger-like mandibles. Intended
for close combat, the Demolisher mounts a considerable armament and is
more than capable of successfully engaging larger capital ships. It is
designated as frigate however, as it is also equipped with twenty
laser cannons, making it highly effective against enemy fighters.
Demolishers tend to be deployed in line or flanking formation with
other capital vessels and are ideal for fleet engagements.
Dating back to the days of the Old Republic, Bulk Cruisers were
prominent in the Rebel Alliance as they were cheap and easily
available. The Battle Horn is a variant of the Neutron
Star-class Bulk Cruiser that has been modified for combat
operations. The Rebels refitted many of these vessels as starfighter
carriers as their lack of capital scale weaponry renders them somewhat
ineffective in combat. A prominent example is the Urjani which
was destroyed at the Battle of Endor.
Sienar Fleet Systems Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser (GEDB and B_B)
Length: 600 metres
Designation: Heavy Cruiser
Crew: 2 251
Troop Capacity: 400
Cargo Capacity: 8 000 metric tons
Consumables: 1.5 years
Shield Rating: 3 000 SBD
Hull Rating: 1 560 RU

25 Turbolaser Cannons
20 Ion Cannons
The Vindicator Cruisers were built as eventual replacements for the
ageing Dreadnaughts and carried an armament far heavier than other
vessels of their size. These extremely potent vessels still serve in
the Imperial Remnant in large numbers.
The SFS Immobiliser-418 Interdictor came into service several months
after the Battle of Yavin and is built on the hull of a
Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser. However, it sacrifices almost all the
Vindicator's weaponry for four gravity well projectors. When
activated, these projectors create an artificial gravity well,
preventing hyperspace travel in the area. Interdictors have been used
with devastating effect by Imperial commanders such as Grand Admiral
Thrawn, and the GADF now incorporates several of these vessels. The
major drawback to the Immobiliser-418 is its lack of capital scale
weaponry, causing it to be reliant on escorts for protection in
combat. A prominent example is the Corusca Rainbow which fought
in the first Battle of Coruscant.
The SFS Immobiliser-418A is a newer model of the highly successful
Immobiliser-418 and features a faster hyperdrive, stronger shields and
the addition of eight heavy turbolasers for use against enemy capital
ships. These vessels were in service with the New Republic during the
Yuuzhan Vong invasion twenty-five years after the Battle of Yavin.
The Dreadnaughts came into service during the days of the Old Republic
and were amongst the largest and most powerful vessels in the Old
Republic Navy. Although moderately armed, the Dreadnaught is sluggish
in both hyperspace and sublight, and the hull and shields are weak for
a ship of its size. As they make little to no use of droids,
Dreadnaughts required over 16 000 crew. Regardless of these
shortcomings, Dreadnaughts were plentiful throughout the Imperial Navy
and also saw service with the Rebellion, who captured and refitted a
number of these ships as "Assault Frigates". Prominent examples
include the Reprisal which was part of Warlord Zsinj's fleet
and General Bel Iblis' Peregrine which was part of the lost
Katana fleet.
Rendili StarDrive Protector-class Heavy Cruiser (XvT, FC and TDP)
Length: 600 metres
Designation: Heavy Cruiser
Crew: 7 882
Troop Capacity: 400
Cargo Capacity: 6 000 metric tons
Consumables: 1 year
Shield Rating: 2 240 SBD
Hull Rating: 1 056 RU
Starfighter Complement: 24 starfighters =3D 2 squadrons
Weapons:
20 Turbolaser Batteries
20 Quad Turbolaser Cannons
10 Ion Cannons
The Rendili StarDrive Protector-class Heavy Cruiser was
introduced into the Imperial Navy shortly before the Battle of Endor
and was intended as an eventual replacement for the ageing
Dreadnaughts. Featuring a completely different design to its
predecessor, the Protector is far more streamlined and features a
significantly reduced crew. The firepower of the Protector has also
been increased compared to the older Dreadnaught, and the underpowered
turbolaser cannons have been replaced by ion cannons. Designed
primarily to protect convoys and serve as planetary defense ships, the
Protector carries far less soldiers that its predecessor, but features
stronger shielding. Although the Empire prefers the more powerful SFS
Vindicator Cruiser, the more cost effective Protector has taken up a
small niche in the Imperial Navy especially in the Outer Rim systems.
The SFS Imperial Research Carrier was designed as a mobile research
facility that would allow the Empire to field test prototype
starfighters and observe them firsthand. These vessels were extremely
uncommon, with only a few dozen ever constructed. The Research Carrier
is well armed to ensure that neither its valuable data nor precious
starfighters are captured, and is equipped with highly advanced
communications systems so that all research can be transferred
immediately in case of emergency. The ship features eight massive
hangers arrayed around the hull, allowing it to launch and recover
fighters remarkably quickly. Since the decline of the Empire, most of
these single-engine vessels have disappeared from service, although a
very small number have survived in the Imperial Remnant.
The Dodonna-class Assault Frigate was created when a number of
Dreadnaughts were captured and heavily modified to increase efficiency
and reduce operational expenses. Much of the superstructure was
removed and a tail of vertical manoeuvring fins was added to the
stern, as well as large-scale droid automation, drastically reducing
the crew needs. This came at the cost of internal space, curtailing
the number of troops and removing the starfighter capacity. The new
vessel was intended for use as a front line warship and as such is
capable of successfully engaging larger enemies. Proliferate during
the early days of the New Republic, these vessels are quite outdated
and consequently rare by the time of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. A
prominent example is the class namesake Dodonna which was part
of the task force commanded by General Antilles when Durga the Hutt
attempted to create his own Death Star.
The Stanchion-class Assault Carrier was manufactured in limited
numbers by Kuat Drive Yards and was introduced around the same time as
the Battle of Yavin. Outwardly similar to the Nebulon-B Escort
Frigate, although over twice as large, the Stanchion Assault Carriers
were intended for use as command ships, and as such feature extensive
communications systems and sensors. Although not extremely well armed,
they are more than capable of protecting themselves in combat. They
also have the capacity to comfortably house six starfighter squadrons,
a number that may be increased to as many as eight squadrons if
necessary. A prominent example is the prototype and class namesake Kalla's Stanchion, which was stolen by the Rebellion shortly
after it was completed and served as the flagship of Rebel leader Mon
Mothma.
The REC Defender-class Assault Carrier was introduced as part
of the ill-fated Defender project that was later absorbed into the New
Class program. The Defender project involved three ships a
starfighter, a carrier which would serve as a mothership for the
starfighter and a star destroyer which would serve as an escort for
the carrier. Despite its origins, very few DACs carry any Defender
starfighters. The first incarnations of the carrier were designed
solely as starfighter platforms and as such were not equipped with any
heavy guns, relying on anti-fighter laser cannons. As a result of this
meagre armament, these vessels are extremely vulnerable to enemy
capital ships and consequently rely heavily on escorts for protection
in combat. Regardless, the entire wing that the Defender carries
greatly augments the starfighter complement of any battlegroup, which
was the principal reason for its inception. Prominent examples include
the Repulse and the Shield which fought in the Yevethan
war.
The Defender-class Assault Carrier Mark II was introduced
approximately five years after its predecessor and featured a far more
extensive armament, as well as stronger shielding and thicker hull
plating. The addition of fifteen turbolaser batteries allowed the
Defender Carrier to hold its own somewhat against other capital
vessels, but it was still reliant on its escorts for protection. The
Mark II gradually began to replace the antecedent Mark I, but after
the Bastion Accords and the official end to the Galactic Civil War,
the New Class program was scaled back and only a limited number remain
in service.
The Majestic-class Heavy Cruisers were designed as line combat
vessels and as such feature heavy weaponry, thick hull plating and
strong shields. These vessels proved to be particularly effective
against the Yevethan T Types during the Black Fleet Crisis. Prominent
examples include the Indomitable and the Yald.
The KDY Class II Frigate, commonly referred to as the Imperial Assault
Frigate, was introduced around the same time as the Battle of Yavin
and was used throughout the Empire, primarily for patrol duties. The
basic design is similar to the old Acclamator-class Troop
Transport in that it shares the same classic wedge shape. However, the
Class II Frigate carries a very small number of troops, instead
devoting that space to an impressive six starfighter squadrons, one of
which is usually comprised of Assault Gunboats. The Class II Frigate
was introduced due to the Imperial Navy's distaste for the ugly Prowler-class Escort Carrier, and has become an integral part
of the fleet. Prominent examples include the Rand Ecliptic
which was hijacked by Rebel defector Biggs Darklighter and the Widowmaker which disappeared in the Unknown Regions while
searching for the living world Zonama Sekot.
The Rothana Heavy Engineering Acclamator-class Assault Ship was
introduced at the beginning of the Clone Wars and was designed
specifically to carry the Republic's Clone Army. The Acclamator bears
the distinctive wedge design shared by future vessels such as Imperial
Star Destroyers, however unlike its successors it is capable of
planetary entry and landing. In addition to its enormous troop
capacity, the Acclamator is extremely well armed and is capable of
delivering a devastating assault on any ship it comes up against.
Acclamators were still in use during the Galactic Civil War and even
as late as the Yuuzhan Vong war.
The CEC Proficient-class is a heavily modified civilian bulk
transport that was used as a warship during the Yuuzhan Vong war. Due
to the shortage of available capital ships, the New Republic was
forced to resort to using refitted civilian vessels and
recommissioning retired designs. In much the same way that the Quasar Fire- and Neutron Star-class Bulk Cruisers were
given heavier armaments and thicker hull plating, as well as equipped
with stronger shield generators and military hangar bays, the
Proficient became a combat vessel. Even with the extensive
modifications however, the Proficient-class is very lightly
armed for its size, and is only capable of carrying one starfighter
squadron. A prominent example of this design is the Soothfast
which fought during the Yuuzhan Vong war.
The Bothan Assault Cruiser was designed shortly after the Bastion
Peace Accords with the Empire and is the first major capital ship
built by the Bothans. The project was met with much criticism as it
was felt that the expenditure involved would be better served
rebuilding the worlds shattered during the Galactic Civil War, but the
Bothans continued the project regardless. Comparable to a Victory Star
Destroyer in size, many of these vessels are currently in service. The
BAC features an extensive array of heavy weaponry, making it a real
threat in combat, as well as carrying four squadrons of starfighters.
As the BAC has both dorsal and ventral hangers, starfighters can be
launched and recovered at twice the normal rate. A prominent example
is Supreme Commander Kre'Fay's flagship the Ralroost.
After the terrifying invasion of their system by the reptilian
Ssi-ruuk, the Bakurans constructed three Star Destroyers to facilitate
the defence of their planet. To this end, the Star Destroyers were
given befitting their mission profile, Watchkeeper, Sentinel
and Defender. These vessels, approximate in size to Victory
Star Destroyer, are as heavily armed as an Imperial Star Destroyer
Mark I and feature strong shielding and thick hull plating. In
addition, they carry two squadrons of starfighters rounding out their
impressive capabilities. The power plants of these formidable vessels
was based on the ISDII, although the exterior is far more fluid than
the angular Imperial vessels. The three aforementioned Star Destroyers
were loaned to the New Republic when Thracken Sal-Solo seized control
of the Corellian System, fourteen years after the Battle of Endor. The
destruction of one these Star Destroyers as well as the Bakuran Light
Cruiser Intruder, caused many Bakurans to become acrimonious
toward the Republic.
First appearing near the end of the Clone Wars, Walex Blissex's Victory-class Star Destroyer is one of the most successful
warship designs in history. Until the advent of the Imperial Star
Destroyer, the VSD was considered the ultimate warship. In addition to
their considerable combat abilities, VSDs were capable of landing on a
planetary surface, a capability not offered by many ships of that
size. Although originally intended for planetary defence and assault,
VSDs are highly efficient in fleet engagements. These vessels were
still seeing active duty during the Yuuzhan Vong war and are
particularly prevalent in the Corporate Sector, where 250 of these
vessels were purchased for sector defence. Prominent examples are the Corusca Fire and Selonian Fire.
Intended as an upgrade to the highly successful VSD Mark I, the VSD II
never saw widespread action as, although it saw increases in speed,
sacrificed heavily in weapons, shields, hull plating and troop
capacity.
The CSA Victory Star Destroyer came about when the Empire
decommissioned 520 of its Victory Star Destroyers from the 27th
Denarian Fleet to accommodate the new, larger and more powerful
Imperial Star Destroyer. The CSA purchased 250 of these vessels,
albeit with the weapons removed, for use in its navy. After purchasing
weaponry from a third party and installing on their new warships, the
CSA had an impressive Picket Fleet with which to guard and police its
territory. While not as heavily armed as their original incarnations,
the CSA VSD retains the impressive shield and hull strength, and
remains a formidable vessel.
The Harrow-class Star Destroyer is an extremely rare vessel
that saw limited service during the Galactic Civil War. After the
introduction of the Kuat Drive Yards Imperator-class Star
Destroyer, Rendili StarDrive realised that their Clone Wars-era Victory-class was likely to be supplanted. This led to a joint
venture between KDY and RSD to design and manufacture a Star Destroyer
that would share the design elements of both vessels. As KDY had
already secured the contracts for its Imperial Star Destroyer, this
vessel would fulfil a different role in the Imperial Navy. The Harrow
was intended as a heavy support vessel for the ISD that would be
easily and cost-effectively mass-produced than its larger cousin. This
900 metre vessel features a heavier armament than its predecessors, as
well as a larger, ISD-style hangar that has the capacity for four
starfighter squadrons. Despite the improvements, the Harrow never
became popular in the Imperial Navy. The performance of the ISD
surpassed all expectations, and the mile-long vessel became the main
front-line warship of the Empire. With the successes of the ISD, KDY
lost interest in the Harrow project and withdrew from it. The first
vessel of this class was the HIMS Harrow which was placed under
the command of Captain Semtin.
The Namana-class Light Cruiser was designed and constructed by
the Bakurans after their planet was liberated from the Ssi-Ruuvi. It
is designated as a light cruiser as it is quite lightly armed,
especially when compared to its sibling Bakura-class Star
Destroyers. It is intended primarily as a command ship and as such is
equipped with state-of-the-art communications systems and sensors. In
addition, this revolutionary vessel was the first to break through an
interdiction field, using a hyperwave inertial momentum sustainer
(HIMS) system. The Intruder, which was loaned to the New
Republic when Thracken Sal-Solo seized control of Centrepoint Station
and was subsequently destroyed was a Namana-class vessel.
The Republic-class Cruiser is a relatively cheap, easily
mass-produced vessel that sees active service throughout the Republic.
It is a well-rounded vessel that saw much action during the Yuuzhan
Vong invasion. A prominent example is the Far Thunder which
fought during the Yuuzhan Vong war.
The Defender-class Star Destroyer was a prototype for what
eventually became the Nebula Star Destroyer and was, for its size, the
most heavily armed and armoured vessel known in the galaxy. They were
designed to be able to successfully engage Imperial Star Destroyers,
despite being only 65% as large and as such were extremely
overpowered. In addition, five squadrons of starfighters were
stationed aboard a DSD, only one squadron short of a full wing. This
came at a cost as the DSD was essentially overpowered for a ship its
size. Despite having the newest, most powerful reactor available, the
fact remained that a ship of this size wasn't meant to be able to
support all those weapons, mount such powerful shield generators and
thick hull plating and house that many starfighters. After the DSD
project was abandoned, the Nebula-class Star Destroyer,
essentially the same but carrying only five months consumables and
three starfighter squadrons was commissioned.
The Nebula-class was introduced as part of the New Class
program and is regarded as one of the most powerful vessels in the New
Republic fleet. Also known as a "pocket star destroyer", the
Nebula-class was intended for use as a frontline warship, often
protecting carriers and other vulnerable ships in a fleet group. To
that end it features shields and hull plating stronger than vessels
far larger than it. The Nebula Star Destroyer was introduced after the
Defender Star Destroyer project was abandoned and was almost identical
to its predecessor, apart from it carrying half the starfighters and
less supplies. Prominent examples are the Brilliant which was
part of the Coruscant Home Defence Fleet and the Resolve which
was part of the Fifth Fleet under the command of General A'Baht.
The Endurance-class Fleet Carriers were introduced as part of
the New Class program and are intended as command ships. While the
Empire chose to centre its fleet around the awesome Imperial Star
Destroyers, the New Republic made a decision to centre its much
smaller military around its starfighter carriers. The centrepiece of
any New Class fleet and the ultimate expression of this change in
military theory, the Endurance-class carries two full wings of
starfighters into combat. Despite this, it has an exceedingly poor
armament for its size, creating an intense vulnerability to other
capital vessels. This is an accepted drawback to the design however,
and the primary role of the Nebula Star Destroyer is to serve as an
escort and protector for the Endurance. Prominent examples include the
prototype Endurance which was destroyed in the battle with
Imperial Admiral Pellaeon at Orinda and the Intrepid which
served as the flagship for the Fifth Fleet under the command of
General A'Baht.
After the initial and ultimately unsuccessful introduction of the
Defender and Endurance Carriers, the New Republic decided to
commission more combat-viable variants of the designs. The original
incarnations, which were hurried off the production lines, were too
vulnerable to enemy capital ships, and the constant need for escort
and protection was a drain on the resources of a battlegroup.
Consequently, the Endurance Fleet Carrier Mark II and the Defender
Assault Carrier Mark II were introduced into the NR Navy. Featuring
stronger shields, thicker hull plating and a much more extensive
armament the Endurance Mark II was a far superior vessel. In addition
to the far more significant combat abilities of the Mark II, it
retained the impressive twelve starfighter squadrons as well as the
one and a half divisions of troops.
Kuat Drive Yards Venator-class Star Destroyer (G_R and K7)
Length: 1 100 metres
Designation: Star Destroyer
Crew: 14 235
Troop Capacity: 1 600
Cargo Capacity: 40 000 metric tons
Consumables: 1 year
Shield Rating: 2 250 SBD
Hull Rating: 1 890 RU
Starfighter Complement: 24 starfighters =3D 2 squadrons
Weapons:=20
10 Quad Turbolaser Cannons
35 Turbolaser Cannons
20 Ion Cannons
This impressive vessel, which shared many of its lines with the
Acclamator Assault Ship, was widely used by the Republic during the
Clone Wars and is a premier warship. Featuring extensive turbolaser
and ion cannons, as well as strong shielding and thick hull plating,
the Venator Star Destroyer is a pure combat vessel. After the
conclusion of the Clone Wars, the Venator was phased out of service in
favour of the newer, larger and more powerful Imperial Star Destroyer.
Originally a civilian liner, the MC80 was introduced during the
Galactic Civil War when the Mon Calamari decided to join the
Rebellion. In converting these vessels for combat, the Mon Calamari
added thicker hull plating and shielding, as well as a sizeable
weapons complement. These vessels were renowned for their strong and
highly redundant shielding systems, making them extremely hard to
kill. A prominent example is the legendary Liberty which was
destroyed by the Death Star II at the Battle of Endor.
Identical to the MC80 in every way except hull structure, the MC80a
was one of the most plentiful vessels in the New Republic fleet. It
was gradually replaced by the MC90s and New Class and now sees only
limited action. A prominent example is the Naritus which
participated in the search for survivors after the World Devastator
attack on Mon Calamari.
The MC80b was an interim design between the MC80/MC80a and the MC90
and was introduced six months after the Battle of Endor. The first
incarnations were essentially upgrades of the converted liners,
featuring stronger shields and thicker hull plating, as well as the
ability to carry an extra squadron of starfighters. Later versions
were able to carry up to eight squadrons of starfighters, while
retaining the same weapons loadout. The turbolaser batteries are
grouped into banks of twelve and the 20 ion cannons are grouped in
banks of four, allowing intense fire to be brought against a target.
The MC80b continued to serve right through the war with the Yuuzhan
Vong, distinguishing itself in combat. Prominent examples include the
legendary Mon Remonda which was commanded by General Han Solo
during the hunt for Warlord Zsinj and the Mon Adapyne which
served as General Keyan Farlander's flagship during the Yuuzhan Vong
war.
After emerging victorious from the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance
found itself with a need for larger and more powerful vessels. The Mon
Calamari Shipyards, whose aesthetically superb Star Cruisers had
provided the backbone for the Rebel fleet, commenced research and
development of a new class of Star Cruiser the MC90. This would not
be introduced into service until six years after Endor, so the MC80b
was introduced as an interim design.
The Republic-class Star Destroyer was designed by Walex
Blissex, the designer of the original Victory-class Star
Destroyer, and was intended to replace the Imperial Star Destroyer in
the New Republic Navy. Two Republic Star Destroyers can be produced
for the same cost as one Imperial Star Destroyer, while requiring only
one fifth the crew and retaining over 85% of the firepower of an
ISDII. The Republic-class also carries four starfighter
squadrons and 3 200 troops. For some unknown reason however, these
vessels never saw extensive production and as such are somewhat
uncommon in the GFFA.
The MC90, which appeared in service for the New Republic six years
after the Battle of Endor, was the first dedicated warship design from
the Mon Calamari. Despite being only slightly larger than its
predecessors, it is far more heavily armed and carries a larger
complement of starfighters and ground forces. Designed to be able to
engage and defeat Imperial Star Destroyers, the MC90 remains one of
the most powerful vessels in the New Republic fleet. Prominent
examples include the prototype Defiance and the Galactic
Voyager, both of which served as the flagship for Supreme
Commander Ackbar during the Galactic Civil War.

The Imperator-class Star Destroyer is the design that
revolutionised the warship market and formed the core of the Imperial
Navy. Designed by Lira Wessex, the daughter of the designer of the
famous Victory-class Star Destroyers, the ISD was intended to
be the symbol of the Galactic Empire and is rightfully feared
throughout the galaxy. Its significant weaponry and shielding make it
an immensely powerful front-line battleship, but it also carries six
starfighter squadrons and an entire division of troops making it a
very well rounded design. The design endured for decades after its
introduction and it still sees widespread use, particularly in the
Imperial Remnant. Prominent examples include the Devastator
which for a time served as Lord Vader's flagship and the Right to
Rule which was Grand Admiral Pellaeon's flagship during the latter
part of the Yuuzhan Vong war.
Modified Kuat Drive Yards Imperator-class Star Destroyer

6 Proton Torpedo Launchers
When the Rebellion captured two Imperial Star Destroyers at the Battle
of Endor, they refitted them to be more suited to their needs. The
crew was reduced by almost ten thousand and the troop capacity was cut
by over a thousand, while proton torpedo launchers were added at the
expense of the tractor beam projectors. Prominent examples include the Emancipator which was destroyed by the World Devastator
Silencer-7 at the first Battle of Mon Calamari and the Liberator which crashed into the surface of Coruscant when the
New Republic retook the Galactic Capital from the Reborn Emperor
Palpatine.

The ISD II was introduced after the Battle of Yavin as an upgrade of
the ISD I and featured thicker hull plating, stronger shielding and a
much heavier armament. These vessels steadily replaced the ISD Mark I
as the main ship of the line in the Imperial Navy and are still in
production during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, thirty years after their
introduction. Prominent examples include the legendary Chimaera
which was the flagship of Grand Admiral Thrawn and later Grand Admiral
Pellaeon and the Avenger which was part of Death Squadron, the
group of Star Destroyers under the command of Lord Vader which
searched for the hidden Rebel base leading up to the Battle of Hoth.
Kuat Drive Yards Dominator-class Interdictor Star Destroyer (SWTC)
Length: 1 600 metres
Designation: Interdictor Star Destroyer
Crew: 24 724
Troop Capacity: 5 000
Cargo Capacity: 20 000 metric tons
Consumables: 4 years
Shield Rating: 3 840 SBD
Hull Rating: 2 272 RU
Starfighter Complement: 48 starfighters =3D 4 squadrons
Weapons:
40 Heavy Turbolaser Cannons
25 Ion Cannons
6 Tractor Beam Projectors
4 Gravity Well Projectors
The Dominator-class Star Destroyer was introduced shortly after
the Battle of Yavin as Kuat Drive Yards' answer to Sienar Fleet
Systems' Immobiliser-418 Interdictor Cruiser. It is built on the hull
of an Imperator-class Star Destroyer, but mounts four external
gravity well projectors. When activated, these projectors create an
artificial gravity well, preventing hyperspace travel in the area.
These projectors however weaken the hull and the immense power
requirements result in reduced shield power, while the compacted
hanger now houses only four starfighter squadrons. Despite these
tradeoffs, the Dominator-class is far better equipped to engage
enemy vessels than the Immobiliser-418, greatly reducing the need for
escorts. Prominent examples include the prototype Dominator and Binder which was part of Prince-Admiral Delak Krennel's
Hegemony.
Kuat Drive Yards Rejuvenator-class Interdictor Star Destroyer (K7)
Length: 1 600 metres
Designation: Interdictor Star Destroyer
Crew: 9 145
Troop Capacity: 2 000
Cargo Capacity: 25 000 metric tons
Consumables: 4 years
Shield Rating: 6 200 SBD
Hull Rating: 2 500 RU
Starfighter Complement: 48 starfighters =3D 4 squadrons
Weapons:
30 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
40 Heavy Turbolaser Cannons
20 Ion Cannons
10 Tractor Beam Projectors
4 Gravity Well Projectors
The Rejuvenator-class Star Destroyer first appeared during the
Yuuzhan Vong war during which it distinguished itself. It is built on
the hull of an Imperial Star Destroyer, but like the Dominator Star
Destroyer, mounts four gravity well projectors. These projectors come
at the cost of reduced weapons, shielding and hull plating, but make
the Rejuvenator Star Destroyer one of the most well rounded designs in
the GADF. Prominent examples are the Mon Mothma which served as
General Wedge Antilles' flagship during the Yuuzhan Vong war, the Elegos A'Kla which also served during the Yuuzhan Vong war and
the Bail Organa which was General Garm Bel Iblis' flagship when
the Yuuzhan Vong captured Coruscant.
Forming a large part of the CSA Picket Fleet, these mammoth vessels
are widely used throughout the Corporate Sector. The CSA originally
introduced these three thousand year old vessels as they were easy to
obtain, but have since proved to be highly effective against pirates
and smugglers. The weapons systems and deflector shields have been
substantially upgraded, but these ancient ships are still vastly
inferior to modern warships. With the addition of newer vessels such
as Victory Star Destroyers, the weaknesses of the Invincible
Dreadnaughts have been somewhat offset and they remain in active
service throughout the Corporate Sector.
Kuat Drive Yards Allegiance-class Star Destroyer (K7)
Length: 2 200 metres
Designation: Super Star Destroyer
Crew: 45 100
Troop Capacity: 4 850
Cargo Capacity: 45 000 metric tons
Consumables: 6 years
Shield Rating: 8 000 SBD
Hull Rating: 3 200 RU
Starfighter Complement: 48 starfighters =3D 4 squadrons
Weapons:
90 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
90 Heavy Turbolaser Cannons
40 Ion Cannons
18 Tractor Beam Projectors
The Allegiance-class is similar to an Imperial Star Destroyer
in appearance but is far larger. They generally serve as command ships
and as such are heavily armed and outfitted with extensive
communications equipment. In addition, the Allegiance retains the
ISD's full division of troops. However, though larger than an ISD, the
Allegiance lacks the extensive hangar capacity of its smaller cousin.
As such, the Allegiance carries only four squadrons of starfighters.
Prominent examples include the namesake Allegiance which was
destroyed at the first Battle of Mon Calamari and the Shockwave
which was the flagship of Supreme Warlord Harrsk.
The Dauntless-class was developed from a series of luxury
liners and was utilised by the Rebellion as a frontline warship during
the Galactic Civil War. In addition to their sizable armament, these
vessels carry advanced sensor and communication equipment.
Amongst the most powerful vessels in the New Republic Navy, the
Mediator Battle Cruiser represented the pinnacle of Mon Calamari ship
design and began to appear around fifteen years after the Battle of
Endor. Like the MC90, these vessels were constructed to the same
specifications, a change from earlier Mon Cal designs where each ship
was unique in design. A prominent example is the namesake Mediator which was heavily damaged by the Praetoriate Vong
right at the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong war.
Created when the Neimoidian-controlled Trade Federation converted a
number of their LH-3210 Container Ships into Battleships, these
immense vessels formed the backbone of the Separatist Navy during the
Clone Wars. The prevalence of these vessels as cargo ships throughout
the galaxy mean that little was suspected when the Trade Federation
began arming them. The massive cargo holds were modified for use as
hangars, giving the Lucrehulk the capacity for an amazing 125
squadrons of droid starfighters. The central core of these vessels is
capable of detaching from the outer arms and landing on a planetary
surface. Although slow, they are heavily shielded and feature
extremely strong hull armour. In addition to the impressive defences,
42 quad turbolaser batteries were added to the ship, making it a
dangerous vessel in combat. These weapons were designed to retract
when not in use, hiding them from view. These monstrous vessels also
139 000 battle droids, an overwhelming ground force. After the
conclusion of the Clone Wars the Lucrehulk Battleship was regarded as
being beyond obsolete in the new Galactic Empire and as such
disappeared from service. The Corporate Sector Authority purchased a
large number of these vessels however, and they remain in active duty
there.
The ageing Bulwark Battlecruiser found acceptance with the Rebellion
during the Galactic Civil War where it was typically used as a mobile
command base. Given its sheer size and heavy armament, as well as the
capacity for four thousand troops and ten starfighter squadrons, it is
ideal for large-scale operations. Unfortunately however, it is plagued
by unreliable electronics and sensors, resulting in very few of these
vessels remaining in active service.
This unique vessel served as Admiral Ackbar's flagship during the
Battle of Endor and remained so until he moved to the MC90 Defiance. Like other Mon Calamari vessels of its time, it was
originally a civilian pleasure liner that was converted into a
warship. Relatively lightly armed for a vessel its size, it carried
ten squadrons of starfighters, making it effectively a "Super
Carrier". Home One was retired from service after
distinguishing itself for many years and most probably serves now as a
museum.
The Viscount-class is the largest ship ever constructed by the
Mon Calamari and began to appear at the beginning of the war with the
Yuuzhan Vong, sixteen years after the Battle of Endor. Colloquially
referred to as Mon Calamari Star Defenders, these immense vessels
bristle with offensive weaponry, as well as carrying eight starfighter
squadrons. A small number of these vessels have been constructed and
serve in the GADF. A prominent example is the prototype Viscount, which was assigned to the Coruscant Home Defence
Fleet during the Yuuzhan Vong war.
These immense vessels first began to appear during the war with the
Yuuzhan Vong and were, at 5 kilometres long, the largest vessels of
Corellian design. Armed with nearly 500 weapons and carrying a wing of
starfighters, the Strident-class is one of the most powerful
vessels in the GFFA. Prominent examples include the three vessels
loaned to the Galactic Alliance during the Yuuzhan Vong war.

After the completion of the Executor and the Lusankya,
Kuat Drive Yards began to design and construct a number of smaller
vessels based on similar lines. At just under half the size and a
fraction of the cost, the Superior-class Super Star Destroyer
became a somewhat common sight in the Empire, functioning primarily as
command ships. In addition to their exceptional armament, these
behemoths also carry two wings of starfighters and a full corps of
troops ensuring the fulfilment of their intended purpose to
symbolise the unlimited power of the Empire. Prominent examples
include the Intimidator which was part of the Black Sword
Command and the Guardian which was captured by the New Republic
and fought during the Yuuzhan Vong war.
Kuat Drive Yards Sovereign-class Star Destroyer (CGSD)
Length: 15 000 metres
Designation: Star Battleship
Crew: 601 670
Troop Capacity: 130 100
Cargo Capacity: 380 000 metric tons
Consumables: 5 years
Shield Rating: 96 000 SBD
Hull Rating: 47 000 RU
Starfighter Complement: 480 starfighters =3D 40 squadrons
Weapons:
500 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
500 Heavy Turbolaser Cannons
75 Ion Cannon Batteries
100 Tractor Beam Projectors
5 Gravity Well Projectors
1 Axial Superlaser
The Sovereign-class Star Destroyer was designed as a scaled
down version of the Eclipse-class Star Destroyer. Like it's
predecessor, it is equipped with a reinforced prow allowing it to ram
smaller vessels. It is armed with over 1 000 guns, but the cornerstone
of its armament is the massive axial superlaser. This superlaser is a
curtailed version of the Death Star superlaser, and is capable of
penetrating planetary shields. Only four of these vessels were ever
built and the New Republic destroyed them all within a year of
construction.
Kuat Drive Yards Eclipse-class Star Destroyer (CGSD)
Length: 16 000 metres
Designation: Star Dreadnought
Crew: 708 470
Troop Capacity: 150 000
Cargo Capacity: 400 000 metric tons
Consumables: 10 years
Shield Rating: 120 000 SBD
Hull Rating: 65 000 RU
Starfighter Complement: 696 starfighters =3D 58 squadrons
Weapons:
500 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
500 Heavy Turbolaser Cannons
75 Ion Cannon Batteries
100 Tractor Beam Projectors
10 Gravity Well Projectors
1 Axial Superlaser
The Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer was designed as the
flagship and command vessel of the Reborn Emperor Palpatine and was
essentially the ultimate doomsday device. Armed with well over 1 000
weapons and equipped with extremely thick hull plating and
inordinately powerful shields, the Eclipse was almost
impervious to attack. The cornerstone of its armament however was the
massive axial superlaser that was capable of cracking the crust of
planet. In addition to this, the Eclipse mounted ten gravity
well projectors that prevented hyperspace travel. The many hanger bays
also housed fifty squadrons of starfighters, as well as five
prefabricated garrison bases and one hundred AT-AT walkers. A troop
capacity of 150 000 rounds out the awesome capabilities of this
leviathan.
Kuat Drive Yards Executor-class Star Destroyer (SWTC and K7)
Length: 17 600 metres
Designation: Star Dreadnought
Crew: 425 000=20
Troop Capacity: 85 000
Cargo Capacity: 250 000 metric tons
Consumables: 8 years
Shield Rating: 105 000 SBD
Hull Rating: 67 500 RU
Starfighter Complement: 864 starfighters =3D 72 squadrons =3D 12 wings
Weapons:
1250 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
1250 Heavy Turbolaser Cannons
1250 Ion Cannons
1250 Concussion Missile Tubes
100 Tractor Beam Projectors
The Executor-class Super Star Destroyer is one of the most
awe-inspiring sights in the galaxy. At eleven miles long, it is one of
the largest ships known to exist and bristles with over 5000 weapon
emplacements, as well as carrying a staggering twelve wings, or
seventy-two squadrons of starfighters. In addition, it houses 85 000
troops and enough consumables to last for eight years without
restocking. Due to the massive expenditure involved in constructing
these vessels, only two are known to have existed the Executor, which served as Lord Darth Vader's flagship, and the Lusankya, which was buried under the surface of Coruscant for
use as the Emperor's personal escape ship.
